I only have one cat Andre... so no killing anywhere :o) Vegetarian and animal rights supporters as well, so deffo. no! :o) Trust me, this cat's had more than 9 lives... being run over twice, breaking it's hip once, climbing up trees and fell into the river on our bottom garden... twice (no injuries, just an unhappy cat!) as well as being beaten up by a rabbit we once had...
.... don't ask... it was a vicious rabbit...

There's a great book about cats... it's a humour one but one of the best lines is this: "Cats are born as kittens, and they spend the first 5 days of their lives blind and without sight. After the first 5 days, they open their eyes for the very first time to see the world around them... and then shut them again, and spend the rest of their lives sleeping."

Dear Mr. Bill Gates:
As I have previously mentioned the following, "Installing Avast 4.6 Home Edition on Build 5308 CTP will cause the Operating System to become "Completely Unstable," that is unless you turn off "All 7 Anti-Virus Shields," which will leave you with "No Active-Monitoring Anti Virus Protection," so it really is about time for Microsoft to give us MSDN Tester's "Something Newer than Build 5308," whether it's either Build 5342, or the Upcoming April Release (even if it's not a CTP Release).
P.S. I am not happy with the fact that Microsoft has chosen to leave us MSDN Windows Vista Tester's Vulnerable to the Critical IE 7 Security Vulnerability (it's bad enough that us MSDN Windows Vista Home User Tester's have No Active Anti-Virus Solution that works, and now we have to worry about an IE 7 Beta Security Vulnerability as well). I have already tried using both NOD32 and the McAfee Virus scan 8.5I Corporate Beta, and both of them refused to install on my Windows Vista Hard Drive.
P.P.S. As I have also previously mentioned the following: The following update refuses to install on my computer: "KB916184 for Windows Vista Build 5308 CTP." So it really is about time for Microsoft to give us MSDN Tester's either Build 5342 or some other New Build No Later than April 12th, 2006.

Uh... it's a beta.
You shouldn't install beta (especially mid-beta releases like these CTPs) on anything that actually needs protecting. By all means, test the crap out of the security on this thing, but if the security fails to live up to your expectations, recite "it's only a beta, it's only a beta", as you file your bug report with Microsoft and flatten your machine for the next install.
If you can't stand the beta, quitcha bitchin'. :-)

Hey there Kevin,
Sorry to hear your a bit upset with your current build of Vista beta, however i do have a few suggestions for you. May i not to you that McAfee are currently running a beta of their antivirus software specifically for those with vista on their machines here is the link.
http://www.mcafee.com/us/enterprise/downloads/beta/index.html - Unfortunately they are currently merging it into a new product so a download is not available, but AVG anti virus has been known to work very well, as well F-Prot.
As other have done so can i just remind you that you are running a beta operating system and as such microsoft do not have any duty of care or patching or support as when you accept the EULA for vista they do explain that support if not available. Microsoft always advise you do not run any beta product in a 'live' enviroment and instead it should be run on a dedicated test machine, that way when you do run into issues, they do not cause major headaches as the machine can just be formatted and started again.
As for patches, when in beta instead of issueing patches for issues like this, a bug report will be raised, dealt with, and the fix will be implemented into a later build. This is because takign time out to fix the bug then write a patch for it, and deploy it onto windows update would take time away from moving onto the next bug or feature that needs completing which will delay vistas release and/or prevent it from becoming the best operating system it can be.
Hope this helps, do try the McAfee virus scan program, I have heard good reports about it, however if it doesnt work then we other testers have also reported AVAST and AVG working, but please do be aware it is a beta. If you do run into problems, the best thing you can do is come on here and see if anyone has a workaround and also submit the bug to mcirosoft using the microsoft beta client so the guys are aware and can work on fixing it. Could you let us know if you have an x86 or x64 when telling people of problems as it does make a major difference when loooking at certain aspects, especially AV programs that way if people have advice for you we can be sure we are not giving you 32bit advice when you want 64bit.
Hope this Helps
